Chinese Malaparte Wedding

June 3, 2013

On May 18th, Jessica and Ed tied the knot at Tiff Lightbox’s beautiful airy room, Malaparte. This is one of my favourite locations to shoot in Toronto. It is clean, bright and central to a ton of locations and of course makes for a perfect backdrop. The outdoor patio is so picture perfect with a series of stairs heading to the sky, and a cityscape of towers and lights behind. Jessica and Ed opted for a ceremony under a tent on the patio and a cocktail hour in the sunny warmth on the open patio.

The bride’s stunning bouquet was created by Sweet Woodruff

I always love it when a groom wears cute, silly socks on his wedding day.

No matter how old they get, when guys get together…the goofiness comes out!

A special moment between Jessica and Ed as they see each other for the first time.

Everyone was ready for the traditional Chinese tea ceremony to begin.

The bride and groom’s dog kept a close eye and made sure no one interrupted the ceremony.

After the tea ceremony was over, Jessica changed into this gorgeous, strapless dress.

The stage is set at Malaparte and waiting for the guests to arrive. I love the clean, white look. It really made the beautiful flowers stand out that much more!

Jessica did such a beautiful job creating an airy, floral summer theme with planner, Rebecca Chan Weddings. Bright pink peonies and orange redonkulous from Sweet Woodruff jumped out against the white ceiling and tables.

Jessica was over the moon excited to finally be at the altar with her soon to be husband.

The room broke out into applause as Jessica and Ed make their way down the aisle together for the first time as husband and wife.

Choosing non-matching bridesmaid dresses in the same colour family is fresh and modern looking.

Jessica couldn’t resist doing a twirl in her beautiful gown as we stopped for photos outside of Roy Thompson Hall.

The bridal parties outfits were clearly coordinated with the motif of the day. The guys wore light grey suits with adorable pink socks from Empire Customs. The bride’s beautiful white flowing gown was from Becker’s Bridal and the girls had each a different shade of pink on from either J Crew or BCBG which emulated the multiple shades of pink in the bouquets. Jessica’s Chinese dress was custom-made in a perfect bright red. All in all, this bridal party was decked out in current fashionable attire that will stay classic and modern for days to come!

The weather was absolutely gorgeous that day and the sunshine definitely enhanced the photos of the bride and groom with their bridal party as they strolled around the city.

Accents of light pink packaged macaroon favours helped anchor the table settings and an elegant white cake from the Wedding Cake Shoppe featured personalized painted cake toppers painted by none other than Jessica herself.  It was a quirky and sweet touch.

Guests were wowed when they entered, pleasing Jessica to no end. The theme was a success! Rebecca Chan from Rebecca Chan Weddings and Events helped ensure that the day went as smoothly as possible and that all of Jessica’s carefully planned details were displayed just right.

The drinks were flowing and the general atmosphere of the evening was that of people ready to have a good time and celebrate!

Photo booths are a great addition to any wedding reception. This one was provided by Soapbox Photo & Video Booths.

Jessica and Ed closed the evenings schedule and marked the beginning of the dancing and party by enjoying their first dance on the patio at dusk while their friends and family lit sparklers in a circle around them. Romantic, clearly, and the song fit the part even better with Yellow by Coldplay.

I had a great time shooting your wedding and I wish you both all the best in your married life together!
