R.C.Y.C Wedding
August 12, 2016
Michelle and Scott originally met in high school through a group of mutual friends. But, they didn’t actually connect romantically until a mutual friend’s going away party, 7 years later.
Soon enough, the couple had planned their summer wedding by the lake at the gorgeous Royal Canadian Yacht Club.
“Our wedding was everything I could have imagined. We started out our morning off super early, my bridesmaids, MOH, flower girl and I headed straight to the island. We figured this would be the easiest and most relaxed place to get ready and we wouldn’t have to worry about rushing around anywhere later. We were able to spend our day is there bridal suite, which was set up with food and drinks and made our getting ready experience sooooo enjoyable. We had one small hiccup when one of our vendors took the wrong ferry and ended up on the other side of the island, but otherwise getting ready went off without a hitch.“
Suited up in navy suits with brown shoes, the guys look fit for a yacht.
“Leading up to the ceremony, we watched the weather and crossed our fingers that we wouldn’t get any rain. I’d like to add that it was about 42 degrees celsius on our wedding day, literally the hottest day of summer. While this made make-up and hair staying in place a wee bit difficult, the fact that we ended up getting zero rain made me the happiest bride.”
The ladies matched the decor in blush pink and all in all, the bridal party couldn’t have blended any better than with the colours of the RCYC.

“When the time came to walk down the aisle, I was a little nervous, but mostly excited. After the bridesmaids went out, Pachebel Canon in D started to play (side note: I think I had dreamed of walking down the aisle to this song for my entire life, having the duet pianist and violinist play it made it even more special), I walked arm in arm with my stepdad. Seeing Scott for the first time was such a special moment. He had tears in his eyes as I walked towards him, and I was so thrilled to finally marry him. Being surrounded by all of our family and friends at such a special moment really meant the world the to us. “
The day was HOT and sunny. A ceremony under great big trees with the breeze off the lake, couldn’t get any better for this 42 degree day. In my opinion, we can’t complain about hot weather since we barely have it so I embraced it, sweating profusely all day!
The city skyline in the background provided the perfect backdrop for this beautiful island wedding ceremony.
The bride’s bouquet, created by Caruso and Company in Aurora, Ontario, truly was a work of art.
Cocktails ensued outside on the shaded lawn with an incredible view of the city.
“After we were done with hair and make-up and getting dressed we were able to do some wedding party shots outside on the front lawn. The view was STUNNING and April was able to capture it so perfectly when doing our shots. The views at RCYC were probably my favourite part of the venue, so having such a clear and beautiful day was fabulous.”
” I think when I saw Scott and his groomsmen getting off the ferry, all decked out in their suits, it really clicked that I was about to marry him, so many emotions and feelings of happiness set in after a long and HOT day of getting ready. All the excitement started to swirl right then.”
The main ballroom is simple in decor, emulating a ship with its curved ceiling and circular lights.
Gold chairs and blush pink accents were a perfect compliment to the navy blue room.
The table set up that greeted the guests at the reception entrance was decorated so perfectly, with the word of the day at the center of it all.
Michelle’s sisters sang the couple a heartfelt song. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. What a precious touch!
“We had requested that our parents and bridal party keep the speeches someone short, but I have to say that my sisters blew me away with their speech. Not only was the MOH speech amazing, my sisters and niece then proceeded to sing a song they had written, solely about me. If anyone knows my older sister, they know that she hates public speaking, so the fact that she was able to get up in front of the entire wedding and sing a song was beyond words. “
“After dinner the real fun began! Despite the fact that it was a million degrees, the party was so much fun, everyone danced, drank (A LOT!) and continued to eat. we were able to visit one on one with all of our guests and enjoy the rest of the day surrounded by our loved ones. When people tell you to take it all in because it goes by quickly, they are NOT lying. It was a complete whirlwind of a day, and the best day of my life. We had so much fun dancing the night away, and heading back with all of our friends on the ferry afterwards was quite the way to end the night.”
As usual, the cityscape from this dock was spectacular! We couldn’t leave without some night time shots with the couple.
Thank you for having me document your stunning island wedding. It was a nice break from home without having to go too far!
