South Ponds Farms Wedding

February 26, 2018

Emily and Trevor got married on a gorgeous June day at the stunning South Pond Farms in Pontypool, Ontario. A beautiful mixture of vintage and elegance, this barn wedding venue perfectly suited the couple.

Emily is my mother's cousins' child so this wedding was particularly special for me since tons of my family was there to celebrate of course! It is especially cool to shoot a wedding day of people that you know because it especially hits at the heart strings! It makes the "getting to know important people" part of the day much easier but adds the extra pressure to make sure that emotive moments are captured beautifully. I want to certainly impress my family and friends!!!

The location, decor and lighting helped me capture just that. It was indeed one of those perfect weather wedding days with a natural setting that you really couldn't go wrong with. The morning of, the couple got ready on site which made for a perfectly stress-free morning. They opted to do a first look by the pond and photos beforehand. I love the scheduling of this, as the couple often relaxes more when they see each-other before the ceremony. There also leaves for plenty more shooting time after the ceremony and of course time for the couple to enjoy their own cocktail hour! This scheduling is helpful in the spring and fall months when the sun sets early and cuts into the photo taking hour availability. It is not for everyone but I highly recommend making use of the "first look" style.

For the couple who thinks a "first look" lacks luster, I encourage them to think about it again. The moment can still be tender and intimate. You can do it in front of your family and friends or just keep it private. It allows for the surprise element to still be in effect!

Emily looked striking in her two piece skirt and chemise. I think it takes a certain body type to pull this off and she aced it!

These wedding rings from Bluboho are my favourite from this year! What a striking ring with a subtle and simple wedding band to accompany it. Why always stick with a diamond, right?

Emily and Trevor's ceremony was simply perfect. Guests walked from the barn to the ceremony space or got a lift via a golf cart. Wooden benches grounded the huge archway atop the hill. The view was breathtaking and the ceremony was short and sweet. On the walk back you could take in the sun falling behind the hills and breathe in that fresh country air.

Emily and Trevor put a lot of hard work into making little details for their wedding. DIY signs adorned the corners and entrances which adds that little extra personalized touch.

The bridesmaids wore flowy, floor length dresses in a lovely print from J Crew.

Emily looked striking in her two piece skirt and chemise from Sash & Bustle. I think it takes a certain body type to pull this off and she aced it! Her hair and makeup was soft and pretty and she looked effortlessly beautiful. The makeup was courtesy of Emily’s friend and hair was by Unojo.

The gorgeous bouquets and all the wedding florals were created by the talented crew at Mid Valley Gardens located in Kettleby, Ontario.

This day was one of those perfect weather wedding days. You couldn’t go wrong with this country natural setting. The grounds of the farm has rolling grass hills, a pond and little barns to choose from.

Emily and Trevor put a lot of hard work into making little details for their wedding. DIY signs adorned the corners and entrances which adds that little extra personalized touch.

The wedding signage was simple and rustic and provided a gentle reminder to guests to turn off devices and be fully in the moment. Something we definitely all need a reminder of sometimes!

Emily and Trevor’s ceremony was simply perfect.

Personalized vows are such a treasure. If you can handle saying them out loud, why not make your promise to one another true to your heart and soul?

What a great guest sign in idea for the athletic couple! Very cute idea and something that will be used for these guys for years to come!

The barn looked spectacular with the mix of antique chairs and harvest tables. Light crept through the barn board making for stunning lighting as the sun set.

Who better to make a cake than your own cousin? Brittany from @brittsbaking baked up this delicious dream wedding cake as a gift for the couple.

Emily and Trevor wanted things to feel intimate, as well as reflect on how much they care for the people who were there. While they made the favour themselves (jars of Ontario honey which looked especially cute on the place-settings!) Emily’s step mom took on the brunt of the DIY projects, which included the s’mores bar, table numbers, Mr. & Mrs. signs, and welcome sign.

I love when couple’s aren’t afraid to play with china and dishware patterns and textures! Layering glass plates with china is such a beautiful effect! Don’t be afraid to mix and match decor…as long as its repetitive in colour, shape or repeated patterns, the look will work!

Games are not as popular as they once were during wedding receptions but they can be so much fun! Emily and Trevor opted for a game that allowed for guest involvement. Each guest had a stick with photos of Trevor or Emily as a kid, and the MC asked questions about the couple. Guests chose which person was the answer. This is fun and definitely invokes some laughter! It also gives a chance for guests to learn more about the couple or test how well they think they know them.

Emily and Trevor say they chose “Dancing in the Moonlight” by Toploader for their first dance because it’s light and fun, and it always makes them smile.

One of their favourite moments from the day was the speeches. Emily shares that they were so emotional, so thoughtful and right from the heart.

I also loved how the food was served family style. It suits the venue perfectly and gives guests a more laid-back and informal feeling.

The new Mr. and Mrs. sharing a quick kiss during dinner is just to sweet to miss!

This late night snack station was actually built inside the barn silo! How cool and fun for guests to make their own smore.

Babies jammed all night too!

It was truly a pleasure documenting your wedding day Emily and Trevor! I hope that these photos win Auntie Lynne’s approval and make the cut for the next family album! 😉

Photos are the only momento to relive a wedding. I still have grandma El’s wedding day photos and cherish them as if they were mine. When your relationship gets hard (they always do at some point) remember to look back at the day you were married. Remember your vows and the way your belly tickled in excitement. Let these memories always bring you back to the reason you love one another.

xx – april
