Late Night Wedding Food

July 5, 2018

So, you’re at a wedding, you’re having a great time drinking, dancing, mingling. Dinner has already been served and it was great, but that was like, 3 hours ago. And you’ve been doing all this dancing. And...now you’re hungry again. Perfect timing for your “4th meal of the day.” The late night food station. Ohhh yes, you know you want it! But what is it that you want? Ahhh, the options, my friends, are never ending!

You can go with simple and easy, elaborate and fancy, down home comfort food or sweet and dessert-y because, well, who doesn’t love dessert? Whatever you decide to serve, your tummy growling wedding guests will be sure to thank you!

Sweet Tooth

The late night food at wedding receptions generally falls into some type of comfort food category. Dessert is arguably the best kind of comfort food there is. Well, at least in my opinion it is! A smores station is always a hit and no, you don’t have to get married at a farm or outdoors somewhere to have this as an option.

Depending on how much food was served during dinner, for example if you had a 3 course meal, you’re better off going with something more along the lines of a snack like milk and cookies (oreos anyone?) gourmet pretzels, or mini grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup for dipping.

Savoury + Small

If you selected lighter fare for dinner, why not serve something a little more on the hearty side like sliders, a make your own taco bar or the always popular, pizza.

French fries are another great option. They really are the perfect late night ‘guilty snack’. They’re liked by everyone and generally the go to food after a few too many drinks! You can serve a few different varieties like truffle fries, garlic fries or the ultimate french fry indulgence, poutine....yummm!

Offer your guests a variety of dipping sauces instead of just ketchup for a more sophisticated approach. You can pre-portion them into cute little individual serving containers or have some great big platters where guests can help themselves to as much or as little as they like.

Breakfast food has become a popular late night food choice at weddings. They say it’s the most important meal of the day….but no one ever said it can only be eaten early in the day! After all, it wasn’t that long ago that McDonald’s started serving their famous breakfast items all day.

One of my personal favourite snacks is popcorn. And a late night popcorn bar at a wedding reception would make me a very happy girl. Throw some flavoured popcorn seasonings into the mix and you have a recipe for a successful late night snack that everyone will love.

Charcuterie boards have been popular for quite some time now. And with good reason. They’re the perfect smorgasboard of snacking and when assembled the right way, they are like art on a platter! These are a great option for those who like to graze when it comes to late night snack time.

For the bride and groom with a major sweet tooth, serve your guests a fun candy station stocked with your favourite go to sweets and chocolate. Since candy is already so fun and colourful looking, there’s really no need to do much to decorate your candy station. A few simple jars and dishes in a variety of shapes and sizes will do the trick.

At the end of the day (or night in this case!) serving your guests a yummy late night food station is always appreciated. In my experience, the food at weddings is often times what people remember the most (aside from the lovely bride of course!). Now, I’m off to find myself a late night snack…all this talk of food has made me quite hungry!
