Pinterest Predicts: The Top Trends of 2023
February 7, 2023
Each year, Pinterest Predicts the trends of the future from the platform where people go to plan it. On February 1st, 2023, an exclusive Pinterest Predicts event took place at the Royal Ontario Museum.
DATE DIFFERENT
Guests had to weave through the big dino and traverse through the Asian Art exhibit to find the Philosopher’s Gallery. The new way to date this year, is to engage in an immersive experience. Identically, connecting through books, art or history is most trendy. Undeniably, The R.O.M was most fitting.
FIRESIDE CHAT
Jenna Landi, Director of Global Brand Research at Pinterest and Malcolm Johnston, Editor-in-chief of Toronto Life, hosted an intimate discussion on stage. They took a deep dive into the Pinterest Predicts report and discussed the trends that will take over life in the city this year. The process of identifying trends, considering how trends take shape and why they matter were all hot topics of discussion.
HIPSTORIC HOMES + MUSH-ROOMS
Olive Studio had the extreme pleasure of being commissioned to showcase some of these Pinterest Predicts Trends for creators to experience first hand. The Hipstoric / Mush-rooms – inspired lounge filled with weirdcore decor and a mixture of antiques combined with modern pieces never looked so chic. In 2023, people will find new ways to honor old stuff in their homes. Boring will make room for quirky mushroom decor and fantasy art.
YOLO YEARS
Next up, The Yolo Years! Boomers and Gen X will plan epic bashes for major milestones, from 100th birthday parties to 50th anniversaries. We represented this trend for the fireside chat stage design with lots and lots of silver! Silver tinsel fringe, silver confetti and silver disco balls adorned the stage, sending off party vibes in all directions. Pops of trend-setting colours of burnt oranges and lavender, artfully designed by Billie Flowers, flanked the stage. Lastly, a rotating slideshow of each trend highlighted the back wall. This resulted in a rainbow of reflected iridescent colours that glimmered off the disco balls.
FREE SPIRITS + VITAMIN SEAWEED + WILDFLOURS
We cannot forget to mention the food and beverage features, inspired by Predicts trends. The aromatic Activation by Bar Chef was swarming with guests longing for a smoking cocktail all night long. L-eat Catering, featured delicious Spirulina + Pea soup featuring the new favourite superfood; seaweed. Top of the line hors d’oeuvres were served in combination with the complete contrasting palette of cheap and delicious street food. The best of the best in both categories!
To cap off the night, cupcakes featuring edible wildflowers brought focus to the apothecary aesthetic trend making new heights this year.
WHAT TO WEAR
Guests dressed to impress, sporting some of the hot fashion trends of this year. “Fringe with benefits“, “Sci-fi fits“, and “Airy styles” are the 3 features trends making their way to the top. Free-swinging fringe, Cyber streetwear and femme in every way imaginable is what captures our attention.
Guests were surprised with a take home gift kit that inspire them to take action with the new featured trends.
This was such a fun event to design and bring to life with Pinterest. Thank you for the opportunity. I can’t wait to see what creators are going to be making with these new Trend Predicts of 2023!!!!
