Fall Farm Family Photos | The Richardson’s

January 13, 2021

I adore photographing the important people in my life. Maia is my longest standing friend. In fact we met while still inside our mother's wombs. Our mother's met while in maternity exercise class and the rest was history! To this day they are best friends. Maia, born just a few weeks before me, became my instant friend.

Now 37 years later, we live a few hours apart with our own families, but don't be fooled, because our friendship lasts the test of time. It is always a joy seeing Maia and her family grow. She is one of those women who makes you feel ashamed to complain about being a mom. haha. She always puts her kids first, and with a smile!

Since becoming a mom myself, 7 years after her first child, she has a lot of insight, tips and hand-me-downs to give. Her multi-tasking abilities are spot on and her enthusiasm is to be desired. She even came to my wedding in the middle of no-where with a 6 month old! Like come on, this woman is a PRO! Anyway, you get the gist of this go getter mama that you wish you could be and secretly hate. ;)

Motherhood

Becoming a mom is by far my biggest joy, however being a mom especially during lock-down with little to no work, has been HARD. REALLY HARD. You know the kind of hard where the world turns dark. For days on end, the baby won't nap, the baby tantrums, the baby smacks you in the face and smiles and you burst into tears.

You feel stupid for feeling so defeated by a baby and worse for letting them get the best of you. Unfortunately, those days feel oh so dark - and you just don't see a way out. The dark can easily become darker. You know what I mean mama's.

And suddenly, as easily as it became dark, your child goes down for a nap and eats a meal without throwing it all on the floor. They laugh and smile and let you make dinner without crying at your feet. You even get to shower alone, without being watched by a little wide eyed person.

FAMILY SESSION

You feel an instant pang of relief followed by a nagging remorse for feeling so dark, defeated and unmotherly. The struggle is soooo real. It is these bright new days after a storm, that I message Maia to get encouragement or a reminder that these dark days happen to us all. Even the smiling, "perfect" mamas.

Sending love to all of you weathering the storms in your life. Where there is darkness, there is light. Find that "Maia" in your life to remind you.
